Create bootable Windows USB stick from Linux.

We have written on tools .e.g. ISO Image Writer, Fedora Media Writer, and Etcher, with which you can make flash drives bootable. But even them have issues making flash drives and memory cards bootable with Windows in my experience.
The tool we introduce to you today is capable of achieving this feat without stress; it’s called WoeUSB.
WoeUSB is Linux tool for creating Windows USB stick installer from a real Windows DVD or an image. It contains two programs, woeusb and woeusbgui. It’s a fork of Congelli501’s WinUSB software which received its last update in 2012.
woeusb is a CLI utility that does the actual creation of a bootable Windows installation USB storage device from either an existing Windows installation or a disk image. woeusbgui (as the name suggests,) is a woeusb GUI wrapper based on WxWidgets.

FOSS: WoeUSB is free to download with its source code available on GitHub.
WoeUSB supports Windows Vista, Windows 7, Window 8, Windows 10 (all languages and versions), and Windows PE.
Supports both wxWidgets 2 and 3.

Once done,WOEUSB will be found in your administration or system tools menu.


I have personally used WOEUSB to create numerous bootable Windows USB's from Linux. It works VERY well. There are issues with ISO's larger than 4GB,but that is a Linux FS problem. Anything less than 4GB works GREAT!!

How To Create Bootable DVD On PowerISO:

Below is a guide on how to create Windows 7,8,10 installation disc from pre-prepared source directory. The source directory should include all files copied from Windows 7,8,10 disc or else Extracted downloaded ISO image to folder, which looks exactly like this.







For newbies: How to Extract ISO Image:

-You must have Winrar installed.
- Open downloaded ISO image location/folder directory.







- Right Click > Click > Extract To Xxxxxxxxxx






- Into Same Directory A Same Extracted Folder Available ''According To ISO File Name.''
- Open That Folder.










1. Start PowerISO.

2. Click "Add" button to add all files and folders under the source directory. Go with windows disc copied files & folders or Go for ISO image Extracted files & folders. pick any directory to load files & folders.







3. Click the menu > Action > Boot > Add Boot Information and select etfsboot.com, then click "OK" to add it as boot file. 'etfsboot.com' can be found in the boot folder under the source directory.







4. Insert a blank DVD disc in the writer, then click "Burn" button on toolbar to burn the current compilation to the disc.







You should now get a new Windows 7,8,10 installation disc.
You can also save current compilation to get a bootable ISO file in step 4. You can burn the ISO file later to get the Windows installation disc.

How To Create Bootable Usb Flash Drive

1. Access a Start Menu for power users




No, it's not the "GOD MODE" link that we can put on the desktop but it's a little undocumented feature.

Windows 10 has a hidden Start Menu that contains some useful tools for Windows power users, such as the task manager, command prompt, device and disk management, and others.

To get to this menu, you’ll need to either

1. Right-click the Windows button on the taskbar



2. Use the Windows key + X shortcut on your keyboard.

Its the fastest way to access those windows tools and no special programs needed.








2. Aero Shake: Quickly minimize all windows except the active one.





The “Show Desktop” function has been around since Windows 95, but up until now, there was no way to just minimize all windows except the one you’re looking at.
In Windows 10, all you’ll need to do is to grab the window by its title bar and give it a shake. All inactive windows will minimize, as you see on the small example above.
If you want them back, just shake again.


3. Gestures for laptop Users.





We all know the standard gestures from phones like pinching to zoom or using two fingers to scroll up and down. Those work similarly on a windows 10 laptop.
In addition to those gestures, there are a few added gestures that are Windows 10-specific.
Swipe three fingers up and you’ll see the task view
Swipe three fingers to the right / left acts like Alt-Tab
Swipe three fingers down to accesses the desktop.
Tapping three fingers on the trackpad brings up Cortana (is it's still active),
Tapping with four fingers brings up the Action Center.


4. Make Your Command Prompt Window Transparent.





We see it often in movies or various Linux screenshots, with the command windows being semi-transparent and the text in cool green colors.
You can do that too in windows 10 by simply right-clicking at the top of the window (1) to prompt a pop-up menu and choose "Properties.". Click over to the "Colors" tab (2) to see a range of personalization options. At the bottom of this tab, you'll find the "Opacity" slider (3), which allows you to see through the Command Prompt window.

In the computer enthusiast world the terms are not fully defined. The most used meanings are following:

VCore: The core supply voltage of an 'important' chip like your CPU or GPU, usually not the Northbridge. Most frequently used to indicate CPU voltage.

VDD: The supply voltage to your Northbridge chip or the supply voltage for the input buffers and core logic of your memory chips (mostly on graphic cards).

VDDQ: The supply voltage to the output buffers of a memory chip.

VTT: Tracking Termination Voltage. Compared to VREF to determine Hi/Lo

VMem: Supply voltage to a memory chip.

VDDR, VDimm: Supply voltage to the memory on your motherboard.

VRef: Reference voltage for the input lines of a chip that determines the voltage level at which the threshold between a logical 1 and a logical 0 occurs. Usually 1/2 VDDQ.

Turn off Windows Updates in Windows 10

To turn off update you can do this using the Windows Update service. Control Panel > Administrative Tools, you can access Services. In the Services window, scroll down to Windows Update and turn off the process. to Turn off Windows Updates in Windows 10, right-click on the process, click on Properties and select Disabled. That will take care of Windows Updates not being installed on your machine.



But since Windows is a Service now onwards, you have to keep your computer updated. To be able to install the next set of features or a newer build, you will require the earlier updates to be installed. That’s why if you use the above workaround, you will have to go to the Services and turn it on once in a while to download andupdateyour copy of Windows.





After you turn on the Windows Update service, when you open Windows Update in PC Settings, you will see a message that updates were not installed because computer was stopped. You will have to click on Retry so that all the available updates are downloaded and installed.

This may take two or three “Check for Updates”. You will have to keep on clicking “Check for updates” until it says your computer is up to date. Then you can go back and turn off the Windows Update service until next time you feel you are free enough to spend time updating your copy of Windows 10.

If your version of Windows 10 has Group Policy, you can also change some settings using the Group Policy Editor. Run gpedit and navigate to the following policy setting:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.
On the right-side, double-click on Configure Automatic Updates and change its settings to suit your requirements.

We do not recommend that you disable automatic Windows Update in Windows 10. If your computer is fine with downloads in background and doesn’t affect your work, it is not advisable to do it. But if you face slowdown of computer due to updates downloading and installing in the background, the above tip to turn off Windows updates in Windows 10 will be of some help.

Setting your network connection to ‘Metered’, can also stop Windows 10 from automatically downloading the Updates. You can do it as follows – Settings app > Network & Internet > WiFi > Advanced options. Move slider to On position for Set as metered connection.
